Delikwe

There are special and enlightened people of such creativity, Delikwe is one of them. A DJ and producer from Matera (south of Italy), but based in Lisbon for some time now, he's one of the smiles you'll always find at the Peekaboo record store.

Delikwe was part of XCPT and he also released music as Sativa Club and Late Night Approach.

His sound is characterized by an inner balance between old-school and modern adventures in sound arts.

Some notes about the mix: for this mix, I didn’t prepare as much. It's something I usually do for podcasts or other mixes. This time, I let the energy influence my music taste during the mix. It’s a vinyl-only with just one digital track of mine included. I played several records I got at Peekaboo, which makes up about 60% of the mix. The journey goes through ambient, downtempo, and includes a little touch of breakbeat, jungle, and DnB. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Q: What made you choose Lisbon as your second home?

A: After my second visit to Lisbon, which made me realise that I wanted to move here. I felt completely drawn to the city’s vibe, even though not knowing much about the music scene, After living in Lisbon for two years, I have to say that it reminds me of my hometown, Matera, in a way....Maybe it’s because of the stones?

Q:  As a producer, we can hear you in a more ambient version, but you also make music for the dance floor. What do you enjoy most?

A: It isn’t easy to choose between them, especially since there’s also a dub-oriented side of me. Honestly, I enjoy all of them. I think it often depends on the sound system, vibe and the space where I’m performing. When it comes to studio sessions, sometimes I know exactly what I’m going to create because I already have a loop or an idea in my mind. Other times, I just follow my feelings and transform them into sounds. This approach seems to happen more often with ambient and experimental music, I must say.

Q: What do you think about the music scene in Portugal, and in particular the community in Lisbon?

A: There’s so much happening here in Portugal. Independent festivals, events, exhibitions—art plays a significant role in this city. I still have a lot more to explore, but thanks to "Made in Portugal" selection at Peekaboo Records, I discovered both old and new Portuguese music that has inspired me during my time at the shop—especially on the ambient side. As I mentioned earlier, I wasn’t familiar with Lisbon’s music scene when I first moved here. Now, I see how incredibly active it is, with plenty of options for every taste. What stands out to me is the strong sense of community, where it’s often about building connections with unique people doing unique things.

Q: Would you like to tell us what projects you have planned for the future, both as a producer and as a DJ?

A: Soon, I’ll be releasing some ambient/experimental material I’ve been working on for a while. On the dancefloor side, I am working on "ManoFurtiva," a project under Delikwe that’s a more floor-friendly set. At the same time, I’ve just started an old-school hip-hop project with a talented friend—more info on that will be coming soon. These days, I’m performing live more often than DJing. My journey with electronic music started as a DJ, and right after, I began producing. I love blending, mixing, and creating tension with records. When it comes to warm-up sets or those uniquely timed performances, that’s when I enjoy challenging myself and connecting emotions with the sound system, space, and the crowd.
