Without fanfare or fuss, Blend It Records’ Black Aroma edits series has become a ‘must-check’ for disco DJs. There’s a good chance that this ninth installment, which once again sees main man Twice at the helm, will also fly off the shelves. The quality threshold remains ridiculously high throughout, from the celebratory disco-funk strut of opener “Get Down Party People”, to the starry-eyed, loved-up bliss of downtempo jazz-funk closer “Sunset Cruise”. Our favourite is probably the ludicrously sweaty “Button Up” – all elastic slap-bass, layered percussion hits and sweet electric piano chords – but the obscure ’80s soul diversion “If You Wanna Dance” (a co-production with crate digger Volcov) pushes it close.
