Viola Wills ‎– If You Could Read My Mind

A fantastic late disco album.  Viola shines and the top gem in this collection if the classic ‘If You Could Read My Mind.’  It’s a shame that the full twelve inch version was not included in the album as it was what launched her into disco divadom.  This is a shining compilation of mostly standards redone with disco style.  It was simply too late in the disco cycle for Viola to hit with this album as a follow up to her 1979 hit ‘Gonna Get Along Without You Now,’ itself a remake of a ’50s pop tune.  Nonetheless, Viola’s rendition of Read My Mind has since been copied by many, including for the soundtrack of the movie ’54’ by Ultra Nate.  Too bad they did not use Viola’s own version as a symbol of great talent come along too late in the game.
