“In 1985, Highgate Wood School was approached by the education industry coordinator from the London Borough of Haringey. The Sixth-Form A-Level Economic students were invited to set up a ‘mini-enterprise’ which would be sponsored by London Insurance Brokers Ltd. The project was to help the students have a practical insight into the world of business during ‘Industry Year 1986'. The students came up with the idea of producing a record and releasing it commercially on their course-related imprint, Advanced Level Enterprise aka A.L.E. They could link this experience to their A-Level Economics course whilst working with local businesses and promoting local artists in Haringey. The students ran an advert in Melody Maker looking for material enabling them to choose five songs by five different artists for a 12” EP."
