KonstruKt, Peter Brötzmann
Dolunay
Blistering studio album from free sax superstar Peter Brötzmann and Turkish experimental jazz quartet konstruKt. RIYL Mats Gustafsson, Paal Nilssen-Love or Otomo Yoshihide.
Dubbed in 2008 and originally released in 2011, “Dolunay” is the first recorded meeting between pioneering free-jazz great Peter Brötzmann and Umut Çağlar’s Istanbul-based konstruKt quartet, and captures their unrestrained energy. And it’s the rhythm section that propels “Dolunay” – Brötzmann shines when he’s accompanied by Korhan Argüden’s powerful drumming and Özün Usta’s bass, sounds that match his legendary intensity and give an almost tidal flow to the recordings. This isn’t a set that requires a content warning, and even free jazz casuals will get a kick out of hearing Brötzmann duke it out with the talented Istanbul four-piece.
