Last heard in 2013 on a st of jams with Sun Papa, Fan Club Orchestra reprise the vibe of their early ‘00s work in ‘VL_Stay’, a first bouquet for the mutual spirits at Glasgow’s 12th Isle.
- The band’s original member Laurent Baudoux is joined by long time co-conspirator Ann Appermans (guitar, bass) and Zéphyr Zijlstra (trumpet) of the Royal Conservatoire of Brussels in a woozy, subtly sentimental journey between iridescent pastoral ambient kosmiche and 4th world ambient-adjacent interzones slinked by winding roads of inquiry into granular ambient noise on ‘LongStay II’ and its more piquant pt. II of drifting choral and string arrangements, toward a slice of classic Harmonia worship in the swaying ‘Long Stay IV’, and the Tangerine Dream-esque flight ‘Very Long Stay’, lead by Zijlstra’s plonging brass into the spongiform shape of ‘Long Stay V’, where horizontal minds can properly park up and take in the view.
