Coincidentally marking the advent of Dub Syndicate as a touring band, โStrike The Balanceโ hears the troupe led by The Roots Radics drummer Style Scott evolve along its own path under the auspices of producer Adrian Sherwood, then at a crest of his powers after a decade helping shaping dub, pop, rock and dance from the backroom. This cross-generational combo carried a torch of classic and cutting-edge chops forward with broad appeal to stoners, lovers, and knowing listeners on an all killer no filler suite right here.
From the subtly psychedelic slant on Lloyd & Devonโs โCuss Cussโ lit up with searing lead guitar, to Gary Williamsโ growling vocal on the bed wise curtain closer โIโm The Man For You Babyโ, itโs pure gravy, stunning up surefooted templates for later Massive Attack aces in the likes of the brooding sitra threaded to โHey Hoโ, and the Shara Nelson take on โJe TโAimeโ diffused with wicked sampler voices and laced to lovers groove, or no doubt the nice โn slow gem โMafiaโ balancing Bim Shermanโs croon with robo voice, and thru the warm lilt of โHawaiiโ and the melodica breezed digi-dub of โJ.A. Minorโ.
