Fresh hallucinatory takes on European improvisation from some of the scene’s quiet emerging elite.

Inner Cop Avoidance is a mysterious new supergroup comprising of tireless German producer Max Stocklosa (TRJJ / C3TRii / TRjj ++), Nasssau’s Sebastian von der Heide together with slept-on Danish improvisers Kristian Poulsen and Mathias Sæderup. Across the three engaging yet easy to digest pieces, the unit present an unmistakably stoned amalgamation of tilted rhythmic micro-workouts, littered with ricocheting percussion and heavy handed tape manipulation. It’s like a gamelan orchestra gone wrong, in totally the right away. Max’s carefully enunciated spoken word piece on ICA 2 grounds the work back somewhere in the human realm, set amongst globs of detuned melodies and mangled electronics. ICA 3 sets off on a determined mechanical drive, reminding us instantly of Remko Scha’s dehumanised machine music, or the automated experiments from Fluxus artist Joe Jones. However, this is sound made of the human hand and the group remain remarkably in-sync with an assured sense of cohesion throughout like a whirling dervish spinning into oblivion.
